Tough mudder

It’s been pretty girly around here, with the pink cakes and dresses and jewelry. But I’m married to a rugby-playing Marine. So my life isn’t exactly glitter and rainbow sprinkles 24/7.

Sometimes, it gets a little dirty. Or really, really muddy.

Toby and some of his friends decided to do a Tough Mudder a few weeks ago, and I was assigned photo duties. I actually had wanted to participate, too, but I didn’t want to slow the rest of the team down (teams are supposed to complete the whole thing together, and I am super slow).

It turns out I totally could have done it… but I’m glad I didn’t. It was really cold, made more miserable by the fact that many of the obstacles involved leaping into ice-cold water (as in, they kept dumping ice into the water). The course was more than 10 miles long.

And many of the obstacles looked like the opposite of fun.

But the guys enjoyed it. Kinda.

As much as anyone can enjoy subjecting themselves to something called “the arctic enema” and also several electric shocks, I guess.

They were even too cold to truly enjoy the “free” beers they got at the end. But they did get some nifty orange headbands, at least.

Yeah… I think the Disney Princess Half Marathon is more my kind of race. What about y’all? Have you ever done a Tough Mudder or other obstacle run?

    1. They actually had it set up so you could get really close to a lot of the obstacles, and my camera has a pretty good zoom!
