Winnie the Pooh tea party

We’re having a Winnie the Pooh tea party at home, and you’re invited!

When I canceled Arabella’s first birthday party in March, I thought I was just postponing it. But as restrictions increased and our time in Okinawa got shorter and shorter, I realized we weren’t going to be able to have her party there. I set my sights on some kind of party to celebrate 18 months. But, obviously COVID was still a major issue when 18 months rolled around, so I decided to invite her stuffed animals and her Auntie Kelly for an outdoor Winnie the Pooh tea party.

In typical Jen fashion, I made way too much food. But Arabella loved it, and we all had a great time. I wanted to share some photos and the recipes I used with you, because I think this Winnie the Pooh tea party would be perfect for a birthday party (with or without human friends from other households), or even a baby shower.

We love Winnie the Pooh around here, and we have a ton of Pooh-themed items since Arabella’s room in Okinawa was Pooh-themed. But you don’t need all of that for a super cute Winnie the Pooh tea party. All of the food is themed, and as long as you have some stuffed animals or even just party favors/inexpensive decorations, it should be clear that this isn’t any old tea party.

One thing that I might change is that the menu was a little heavy on the sweet stuff, with not enough savory items. If you’re throwing your own Winnie the Pooh tea party, I’d recommend adding another savory sandwich, some cheese, or carrots and celery (from Rabbit’s garden) with hummus so that you don’t get overwhelmed by the sugar. You also may want to consider sticking to a plain or less sweet scone (this is my favorite scone recipe, and you can leave out the nuts and apricots if you’d like) instead of the scone cookies I made.

Winnie the Pooh tea party menu:

Russian honey cake (I used a Pooh-shaped sandwich cutter as a stencil for the top, and used a very dark honey so that the honey flavor would come through)

Piglet jam swirl cookies (I added a drop of pink gel food coloring to the cookie dough to make it pink)

Tigger tails: Mandarin orange slices drizzled with melted chocolate (mixed with a little bit of coconut oil) to look like tiger stripes

Pooh’s honey mustard ham and cheese sandwiches (I used a round cookie cutter and stacked them so they had two layers of ham and cheese and three pieces of bread total.)

Rabbit’s veggie cream cheese sandwiches (I used white bread and made my own veggie cream cheese with carrots and a red bell pepper, using this recipe as a guide)

Eeyore’s blackberry scone cookies (From Sweet and Simple: Dessert for Two)

Tea with honey! (I made a pot of darjeeling and put apple juice in Arabella’s sippy cup)

Interested in the items I used for my Winnie the Pooh tea party? The honey pot was a gift from The Corner Haven, the seersucker napkins are from Food52, and the wooden Pooh train and toys are Kidea brand and only available in Japan (unfortunately!).
