Fourth of July weekend foods

Hello all! And Happy Canada Day to my Canadian friends!

I am working on getting some July 4th foods made and posted (Red, white and blue cupcakes coming soon — hopefully tonight), but in the interim, I wanted to direct your attention to a few things that might work for your patriotic picnic/jaunt to the beach/etc.

Watermelon sorbet: Can be made with or without an ice cream maker, and more likely to make you say “God bless America” than a hot girl in a flag bikini.
Fruit salad with mint sugar: Simple, delicious and colorful. One of my all-time favorites.
Lele’s fried chicken: Not very low fat, but good for a picnic.
Beer biscuits: Quick, easy, portable, yummy.
Jalapeno-cheddar cornbread: Because it is spicy, cheese-y and cornbread. All at once.
Turkey-cheddar burgers: Something a little different, if you’re grilling.
Guacamole salad: Because it has a lot of vegetables, but people still love it.
Sundried tomato pasta salad: This just made me realize I’ve never posted my mom’s pasta salad. But this one is good, too.
PIE: Man, I love pie. Try blackberry, cherry, Key lime, peach-raspberry crunch or mini.
Cherries on a cloud: Throw some blueberries on there, too, to make it extra patriotic.
