Garden of the Gods

Even though I’ve had the opportunity to travel to some really awesome places for work, I don’t usually have much free time in the places I visit. Sometimes, I don’t even have time to eat a proper meal! But even when my schedule is packed, I try to make a little time to get out and explore — so while I was pretty busy on my recent trip to Colorado Springs, I figured out a way to squeeze in a visit to Garden of the Gods.

As you can see, Garden of the Gods is a gorgeous park made up of red rock formations.  I am so glad the woman who helped me with my rental car in Denver suggested I go — it was a perfect place to get some exercise while also taking in a little of Colorado’s natural beauty.

Though the park is full of large rock formations, there are several trails (about 15 miles in total) around the rocks for walking, running and biking. Those trails are very well maintained and generally flat, so you don’t really need hiking boots or trail shoes, but you can climb the rocks if you bring proper equipment and check in at the visitor’s center first.

Right before sunset was really the only time I had to go (I made it to the visitor’s center about 5 minutes before they closed!), but it was actually kind of perfect because the changing light makes everything look even more beautiful. I’m sure sunrise is also a fantastic time to see it.

If you ever find yourself in the Colorado Springs area, make time to visit Garden of the Gods. It’s a great place for a run or even a short walk. If you can make it when the visitor’s center is open, check out their cafe, educational movie and gift shop. Just be sure to bring your camera!
