Fab Fave Friday: Baked & Wired cupcakes

I’ve had Sprinkles cupcakes (too dry). I’ve had Cake Love (also too dry). I’ve had Crumbs (good, but a bit too big). I’ve had any number of random local cupcakes. And I’ve had Georgetown Cupcakes. Don’t get me wrong — they’re good. Maybe not stand-in-line-for-45-minutes good, but definitely good.

By my vote for the best cupcakes in DC? Baked & Wired.

There are a lot of reasons to love Baked & Wired. It’s divided into two parts, so if you just want coffee (or just want a cupcake), you can just stand in the corresponding line. Inside is sort of scruffy and cool — not all blinged out and pink like a lot of bakeries (not that there’s anything wrong with that). And the lines aren’t nearly as long as GC, even though it’s only about two blocks away. But the best thing, obviously, is the cupcakes.

My favorite is the dirty chai cupcake, which isn’t super surprising since I love dirty chai. The cupcake version is a chai-spiced vanilla cupcake with espresso buttercream. It’s perfect.

The lemon one with lemon buttercream and raspberry in the middle (it’s called the Razmanian Devil) was also to die for. But all of them are awesome. And most of the names are fun — e.g. Unicorns & Rainbows. I’m pretty sure the White Russian-flavored cupcake we got was called “The Dude.”

omgbars

If you do go, though, you also have to try the OMG bar (pictured above). It’s a graham cracker crust, topped with caramel, marshmallow fluff and chocolate ganache. Let’s just say it’s aptly named.

Oh, and the coffee is also good, according to Toby. Yay.

So, what are your favorite bakeries/cupcakeries?
