Breakfast biscuit bar

The waffles were delicious. They really were. But building a make-your-own waffle bar is a mess and kind of a pain. The timing is a challenge, because you don’t want the waffles sitting on the table for too long, or they’ll get cold and a little soggy. And having to make the waffles separately is a bit annoying. So, I think I’ll save the waffles for a sit-down-and-eat-together type breakfast.

For a football brunch when the game starts early and people might be going back for seconds, a biscuit bar is much easier.

Biscuits don’t take that long to make, you can bake a bunch at a time, and they are still good when they cool off to room temperature. I put several things out for people to build their own biscuits — honey, jam, fried chicken (chicken fingers I bought in the frozen section of the grocery store), scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon. You could also cook some sausage, if you are so motivated.

Thinking about building your own biscuit bar? Here’s what you’ll need:

Biscuits: Duh. You can totally make your own — I believe in you — but the frozen kind or the ones in the can will work too
Honey and jam: Any kind you like
Fried chicken: Pick up your favorite takeout chicken fingers, buy the frozen kind and bake them with the biscuits, or, if you’re really motivated, fry your own the night before
Bacon: Mmmm.
Eggs: Scrambled or however you like them
Cheese: Grate it yourself. The pre-grated kind is weird.
Sausage: If you feel like it
Vegetables: If you’re way healthier than me.

I also made the fruit salad with mint sugar (I cut up thr fruit the night before and added the mint sugar in the morning), some Bengals cookies and teeny tiny pecan pies (recipes for the last two are coming soon). And the best part: We have lots of delicious biscuits left over for breakfasts this week.
