The Mobbies

I am a little late on this, but I wanted to thank everyone who voted for me in the Mobbies (the Baltimore Sun’s best blog contest). I didn’t win, but I did make the top 10 in food blogs this year.

Last year, you could see how everyone was ranking all the way through, but this year they changed it after the first week so I had no idea how I was going to do. I didn’t think I’d win, but you never know, right? Anyway, Toby and I decided to go to the Mobbies party at Illusions Magic Bar in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood to hear the results.

We got there before the magic show started but after a lot of other people had already taken the good seats… so we had to sit in the front row. Awkward.

And you know what happens when you sit in the front row at magic shows, right? You get called up on stage. The magician asked for a $20 bill, and Toby volunteered the one I had just given him… and then, of course, the magician made him get on stage. He put the money in a little envelope, made Toby pick one of three identical little envelopes and burnt the other two. Then he opened the envelope Toby was holding and it had a note with “IOU” on it. Womp Womp.

He sent Toby back to his seat and did a trick with someone else, then called Toby back on stage and had him pick an orange from this big martini glass… and when he cut open the orange, the $20 was inside. It was sticky and soggy and orange-y, but it was definitely the same $20. Pretty cool.

Anyway, we had a good time and it was a pretty neat bar. You can see more photos from the event here. Thanks again for voting!

PS I promise I will post some photos from this year’s Marine Corps Ball, but I want to include a hair how-to with the post, so I need to do that first. Soon, though.
