Rock me like a hurricane

Everything was going swimmingly on Saturday. It was windy and rainy and stormy outside, but Toby managed to get my car in the garage (since my Jeep’s hood was smashed by a falling sheet of ice after the blizzard in early 2010 and a tree branch went through the windshield during a crazy thunderstorm last summer). I had Britney’s “Break the Ice” stuck in my head and had just finished making a pitcher of hurricanes:

(I used this recipe, but it was a little too tart for me so I added more grenadine and simple syrup. Even better mixed with sweet tea). Then the power went out.

So, instead of going to the neighbors’ apartment to play Catch Phrase — as originally planned — we spent the evening reading with headlamps and developing a full appreciation for the invention of air conditioning.

The power came back on Sunday morning, but our cable and Internet is still down. So I have missed the beginning of the U.S. Open and am now sitting in the philosophy section of the Annapolis Bookstore, drinking chai and pondering why the man across from me is wearing a kilt.

I apologize for not posting the final peach week post in a timely fashion. I’m going to try to get a few things up and scheduled and cross my fingers my Internet connection at home is back up and running soon!

How did everyone else fare during the hurricane?
