Just say no to diaper shorts

I get a “Look of the Day” e-mail every day from InStyle.com — each has five photos of well-dressed celebrities, with one chosen as the best look of the day.

Yesterday, the main photo was this:

OK. The jacket/top/necklace/bracelet combo is very cute, and she does have fabulous legs. I don’t love the shoes, but I can deal with them. But WTF is going on with those shorts? I can not be the only person who thinks they look like a diaper.

Then, I was looking at JCrew.com today and saw this great jacket/blazer I want to get when I get a job:

Ikat dot blazer, $198 (jcrew.com)

I was focused on the upper half… but then I noticed the shorts. Diaper again. I am not really sure what is going on, but I’m not a fan. It’s not like there aren’t other, cuter shorts available (on the same site, no less). For example:

Heavy poplin Carson short, $29.99 (on sale!)
Starfish cinema short, $59.50

So, the moral of this story is: If you want to show off your amazing legs — or it is just too hot to wear jeans — stay away from short-shorts with a baggy crotch and fitted legs. Unless you are 2 years old or need them to cover your Depends.

  1. Seriously, what gives?? I haven’t seen these before, but now that you’ve highlighted them like an episode of “What Not to Wear,” I’m wondering why people want to look like they have incontinence issues. So weird!
