Get in shape, girl!

The other day, I was sitting in the doctor’s office, waiting for a shot in my foot to numb this inflamed nerve so I can run. I have a terrible problem with needles — even if I don’t look at it or think about it, getting a shot or getting my blood drawn makes me clammy and queasy. But maybe if I can run, I can get in better shape faster, right?

And then I read this: Americans exercise more, but still get fatter.

Awesome.

In related news: I was supposed to have a smoothie with 200 calories or less today for my second meal. But I foolishly spent my evening watching the NCIS marathon instead of going to the grocery store, and I am at the journalism school today working on a story. So I had to forage for low-cal smoothies at the Off the Record Cafe (seriously), and ended up with a chocolate-flavored Muscle Milk Light. Let me tell you: If you enjoy chalky, chocolate-flavored water, this is the drink for you. Blech.

*In case you are wondering, the title of this post is a reference to a workout audio tape I had circa 1986. It came with a rhythmic-gymnastics-style ribbon and was almost as rad as Mousercize.

  1. Ok, don’t knock Mousercise until you’ve tried it! That was my favorite work out video in the early 90’s…b/c yes, i was a piglet in middle school too.

I hate that article, it makes me not want to work out.

PS. I have also injured my foot and am gimping around the office. Skinny will have to wait for another day!

  2. No knock, I loved Mousercise, too! I used to run around in this pink-and-white striped leotard with legwarmers, doing Mousercise and my Get in Shape Girl! tape. Of course, by high school I was sleeping in while Leigh Anne went to aerobics with my mom.

Do you have a pool or exercise bike or something? My foot has been hurting for a year, so I feel your pain.

  3. Were the outfits from Mousercise not AMAZING?! And the fabulous 80s hair cuts with bandanas and leg warmers. Omg, I need to dig up this old video and watch it again — I’m sure it’s actually hilarious to see now.

I could theoretically go to the gym and hit the pool/bike…but I choose chocolate and air conditioning. 🙂 haha
